
Sociolinguistics 2023 C
This course introduces students to the study of Sociolinguistics, exploring the relationship between language and society. The course covers key sociolinguistic topics such as language variation, language change, bilingualism, code-switching, language and identity, politeness strategies, and language policy.
Students will develop a research-based understanding of sociolinguistic phenomena, engage in critical discussions, and apply sociolinguistic theories to real-world language use. The course integrates academic writing and research skills, requiring students to submit a research or community service article to a SINTA 3-accredited journal as the final assessment (UAS).

Provide the students with the ability to use advanced strUctures of English at both receptive and
productive levels: tens , passive voice, subjunctives, plurals, clauses,
TOEFL exercises.

SOCIOLINGUISTICS
1. Begin to notice how language is used and how it varies across the array of contexts in which we engage daily.
2. Understand the theoretical underpinnings of the tradition of Sociolinguistics.
3. Understand different perspectives on context, including identities, social institutions, cultural values and their
relationships with language
4. Confidently engage with the technical discourse and metalanguage within the field of Sociolinguistics.
5. Make the clear link between the use of language and the context of that use.
6. Link theory to the practical reality of language variation in the community.
7. Articulate why and how some varieties of language are more highly valued than others.
8. Generate, collate and analyse samples of authentic language use.
9. Undertake small-scale research, with a focus on language variation in the community.

RESEARCH METHOD IN ELT 2023 C
This course familiarizes students with the practices of ELT research in educational settings. It explores ELT classroom-based research methodologies, especially classroom action research to support the students’ competence to be professional English language teachers. It enables students to identify ELT-related issues, formulate research problems, select appropriate methods of data collection and analysis, and find solutions to ELT related problems. The students will be able to (1) describe the basic principles of research methods in ELT, (2) select research topics in ELT, (3) identify different kinds of research methods in ELT, (4) apply their knowledge about classroom Action Research in designing a research proposal for their theses, and (5) capable in choosing and using an appropriate research method for their research.
